Listening is one of the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing). It is a kind of receptive skills in the language skills, because the focus is on receiving information from an outside source.
Listening is also a foundation for other skills. Babies as young as one and two months of age have the capacity to discriminates speech sounds. By listening, babies are preparing to replicate the sounds when they speak, so there is relationship between listening and speaking. Meanwhile, when children are able to listen and speak, they will learn to read and write.
